The 5 tools on the same fields

Looka

  • Best for: a first logo that has to work on a website, a storefront and a business card in the same month.
  • Main limitation: the pricing FAQ says you get copyright in the logo as a whole but not in individual elements such as symbols, so the icon is not exclusive to you.
  • Price or plan limits: Brand Kit at $96 USD per year and Brand Kit Web at $129 USD per year, both billed annually.
  • Files you get: Looka's package guide lists SVG, EPS, PDF and PNG files with transparent, black and white versions; the Basic package is a single 1000 by 1000 pixel PNG.

Looka's Brand Kit Subscription costs $96 USD per year, according to its help center as checked on 17 October 2026.

Brandmark

  • Best for: founders who want vector files and full rights without a recurring bill.
  • Main limitation: the Basic tier is logo files only; brand guidelines, business cards and social designs start at the Designer tier.
  • Price or plan limits: the Brandmark pricing page lists Basic at $35, Designer at $95 and Enterprise at $195, all one-time.
  • Ownership terms: the same page states "Full copyright included" for commercial and personal projects, and logos stay editable after purchase.

Brandmark's Basic package costs $35 one-time and includes PNG and vector logo files, per its pricing page on 17 October 2026.

Canva

  • Best for: small teams that will produce weekly social posts, flyers and decks around the logo.
  • Main limitation: Canva's help center says logos built from its templates cannot be registered as trademarks because the rights are non-exclusive; stock graphics are excluded for the same reason.
  • Price or plan limits: the Canva pricing page lists Free at US$0 with 1 Brand Kit (3 colors only), Pro at US$144 per year with 5 Brand Kits and up to 200 Premium AI uses a month, and Business at US$250 per person per year.
  • Trademark route: build from scratch with Canva's fonts and simple shapes, or upload a logo you own, then use Canva for collateral.

Canva Pro costs US$144 per year for one person and includes 5 Brand Kits, according to Canva's pricing page on 17 October 2026.

Adobe Express

  • Best for: creators who want an AI logo generator, brand kits and video tools under one login. See our Adobe Firefly review for the model behind it.
  • Main limitation: generative features draw from a monthly credit pool, so heavy logo iteration competes with every other AI task.
  • Price or plan limits: the Adobe Express pricing page lists Free at US$0.00, Premium at US$9.99 a month with 250 generative credits per month, and a Firefly Pro tier at US$19.99 a month with 4,000 credits.
  • Commercial use: Adobe states that outputs from its generative AI features can generally be used commercially, except features it marks as beta.

Adobe Express Premium costs US$9.99 per month with 250 generative credits, according to Adobe's pricing page on 17 October 2026.

Ideogram

  • Best for: testing dozens of wordmark, monogram and badge ideas where the letters must render correctly.
  • Main limitation: the Ideogram pricing page lists image and video models but no vector logo export or brand kit, so a designer or vector tool has to finish the mark.
  • Price or plan limits: Plus at $15 per month billed annually ($180 a year) with 2,400 priority credits, Pro at $42 per month billed annually with 7,500, or pay as you go at 1 cent per credit.
  • Ownership terms: Ideogram's FAQ says it does not claim ownership of generated images and allows commercial use; images are public by default unless you are on Plus or Pro.

Ideogram Plus costs $15 per month billed annually with 2,400 priority credits, per Ideogram's pricing page on 17 October 2026.

Vendor ownership language and legal protection are two different things. Looka, Brandmark and Ideogram all grant you broad rights to use the output commercially. That contract does not create a copyright the law will recognize.

The US Copyright Office's Part 2 report on copyrightability, published 29 January 2025 and indexed on its AI policy page, concludes that copyright does not extend to purely AI-generated material, and that prompts alone do not provide sufficient human control. Human authors can still claim the parts they create, select, arrange or modify.

Trademark law protects a logo for a different reason: it identifies your business to customers. The USPTO's trademark basics page walks through searching for similar marks, filing and maintaining a registration.

What to check before you pay

  • Vector files. Ask for SVG or EPS. A PNG alone will blur on signage and cannot be edited cleanly by a printer.
  • Exclusive elements. Template icons and stock symbols are shared with other users. Use fonts and simple shapes, or redraw the icon.
  • Edits after purchase. Looka and Brandmark allow edits after you buy; Looka locks the company name field.
  • Subscription exit. Confirm you keep the files and rights after cancelling. Looka states this in writing.
  • Privacy defaults. Ideogram publishes images by default on lower tiers, which matters for an unreleased brand.

Our small business AI tools guide covers the rest of the launch stack.

How to choose

  1. Write the brand name, a one-line description and three adjectives.
  2. Generate 20 to 30 concepts in Ideogram or Looka's free editor; both let you explore before paying.
  3. Shortlist three and print each at 2 cm and 50 cm. Drop anything that fails at either size.
  4. Search the USPTO trademark database for similar marks in your goods and services class.
  5. Rebuild the winner with exclusive elements, then buy the vector package from Looka or Brandmark.
  6. Load the final files into a Canva or Adobe Express brand kit for daily content.

How we rank

We compared five tools on the fields a logo buyer needs: file formats delivered, brand kit features, edit rights after purchase, ownership and commercial use terms, trademark guidance, plan prices and usage limits. Every price and limit comes from each vendor's own pricing or help page as checked on 17 October 2026, with currency stated as shown. Legal context comes from the US Copyright Office and the USPTO. Rankings weigh delivered files first, then year-one cost, then rights. Full method is on how HumanRank ranks tools. For deeper coverage of one platform, read our Canva review.

Frequently asked questions

Can I trademark a logo made with an AI logo generator? Yes, if the mark is distinctive and its elements are exclusive to you. Canva says logos made from its shared templates cannot be registered, so build from fonts and simple shapes or redraw any stock icon before filing.

Is an AI-generated logo protected by copyright? Not if it is purely AI-generated. The US Copyright Office's January 2025 report says prompts alone do not give enough human control, though your own creative edits and arrangement can be protected.

Which AI logo maker gives SVG files? Looka's premium file set includes SVG, EPS, PDF and PNG, and Brandmark's $35 Basic package includes vector files. Ideogram's pricing page lists no vector logo export.

Do I keep my Looka logo if I cancel the Brand Kit? Yes. Looka's pricing page says you keep full ownership of your logo after the subscription ends, though you lose access to the branded templates.

What is the cheapest AI logo generator with full rights? Brandmark at $35 one-time is the cheapest option here with vector files and full copyright stated on its pricing page. Canva's free plan costs nothing but its template logos are non-exclusive.

Is Canva's AI logo generator free? Yes, the Free plan includes up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses and 1 Brand Kit limited to 3 colors. Canva Pro at US$144 a year raises AI use and adds 5 Brand Kits.

Can I use Ideogram images in a commercial logo? Yes. Ideogram says it does not claim ownership of generated images and allows commercial use, but you will still need to convert the image to vector and check trademark conflicts.

Is Adobe Express safe for commercial logo work? Yes for most features. Adobe says outputs from its generative AI features can be used commercially unless a feature is marked as beta, and Premium includes 250 generative credits a month.
